Remembering the Newfoundland Rangers
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the last living member of the Newfoundland Ranger Force, Cyril James Goodyear. He was in his 99th year.
Cyril joined the Ranger Force in 1945 and served until 1950 when he became a member of the RCMP, retiring from that force in 1965.
It is with great sadness that the family of Louis (Lou) Ambrose Gilbert Stuckless announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Hospital on August 8, 2023, at the age of 98.
Louis was the last person to join the Newfoundland Rangers in July 1949, one of only two Rangers to join the Force after Confederation. In August 1950 Louis transferred to the RCMP, serving with that force until retiring in 1983 as the last Newfoundland Ranger serving in the RCMP.
