CAMPBELL, Angus J. - Died peacefully at his residence in St. Philip's on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 surrounded by his loving family, Angus J. Campbell age 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Halley) Campbell; infant son, Richard; and sister Margaret Murphy. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his memory, his partner in life for 54 years, Maureen (O'Rielly) Campbell; his children and their partners, Anne Campbell of Saskatoon, Rob (Betty) of St. John's, Scott (Cathy) of Witless Bay, Susan (Michael Murray) of Portugal Cove; eight grandchildren, Colleen, Lesley, Cathy, Gillian and Andrew (Elizabeth Farrell) Campbell, Evan, Timothy and Cameron Murray; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Arabella Campbell; brother, David (Maureen) Campbell of St. John's; sister, Sheila (Jack) Higgins of Detroit, Mich.; also extended family and dear friends. Angus, a respected and well-known St. John's architect, has left his legacy of modernism in architectural design. His thoughtful and accomplished designs include many prominent buildings. This past year, two of his designs, the Roaches Line home of Joseph R. Smallwood, former premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Beth El Synagogue on Elizabeth Ave. have been included in an architectural show of designs from the Atlantic provinces sponsored by Dalhousie University School of Architecture. Carnell's Funeral Home and St. Pius X Church are also his designs. Cremation has taken place at Angus' request. Family will be receiving friends and relatives at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday, from 7-9 p.m., on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A vigil will be held for Angus at Carnell's on Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held from St. Pius X, Smithville Crescent on Tuesday September 25, 2001 at 9:45 a.m. Interment to follow in Belvedere Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Angus' memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or the Arthritis Society of Newfoundland division.
