Biography
Ranger Forward was stationed in Battle Harbour on July 31, 1950. The Battle Harbour detachment was reconstructed by the Battle Harbour Historic Trust. The detachment building is presently named the Constable Forward Cottage after Ranger Forward, who was also the first RCMP Constable in Battle Harbour. The Cottage is an accomodation at the Battle Harbour living museum. See the Battle Harbour website here.
Obituary
FORWARD, Robert James - Passed peacefully away on July 28, 2011 after a short illness, Robert James Forward, age 85. Former Newfoundland Ranger, RCMP Officer and Provincial Civil Servant. Predeceased by his first wife Emma (nee Hollett) and brothers: Kenneth and Colin. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Della; sons: Kevin (Michelle), Donald (Marie), Robert (Jayna) and daughter Margo; step-children: Carolyn (Roger McGrath) and Sandy (Wayne Harris); grandchildren: Karen and Megan; Nicole, Adele and Simon; Brian, Drew and Kyle; Ryan and Courtney and Jennifer; great-grandchildren: Sophie and Mia as well as a large number of family and friends. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at Church of the Ascension, 58 Smallwood Drive, Mount Pearl on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Memorial University of NL, Newfoundland Ranger Force Scholarship Fund at Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, 20 Lambe's Lane, St. John's, NL A1C 5S7 or to a charity of one's choice.
